0049 - Novels
Novels! I think they are great with consuming your time. There are many types of novel that I have came across. Ranging from flat and thin ones to those that are just too thick to put them into your bag. From adventurous fantasies to tragic love stories that will tingle your lacrimal glands.
Different people prefer different types of novels. Of course, there are people who doesn't like reading.
I like fantasy stories. However, I only read novels that had been made into a movie. Typical huh?
So you would have guessed that my first book is Harry Potter. I amazed myself by finishing the entire series, amazed because I don't really like reading books.
Clearly, my next novel after Deathly Hallows is the Twilight Saga. Which brings me to my point of this post.
Personally, I really feel that S.Meyer should have stopped at Twilight.
I think that Twilight is a good movie and a good novel. That's really the best S.Meyer can do. No offense here. The rest of the installments really aren't as good as the first.
New Moon is an extremely boring part of the saga. The story revolves around Jacob and Bella, telling the readers how the both of them developed feelings for each other. S.Meyer also spent a lot of time ensuring the readers that Bella really can't do without Edward.
S.Meyer also mentioned near the beginning that Victoria wants to seek revenge for the death of her mate caused by Edward. I expected this to be the focus of this installment, but it turns out not to be. Victoria was only dealt with in Eclipse and I'm very disappointed with how it happened.
Every story has a climax, for New Moon, I just can't tell where the climax is. I guess it's suppose to be the part where Edward is exposing his kind's existence to the human, where doing so would cause his death.
If it is, then I think it's an epic failure! No excitement or whatsoever at all. I never fail to fall asleep whenever I pick up New Moon.
Eclipse was a little bit better. There is a fight scene between Victoria's army and the Cullens & Shapeshifters. I was really looking forward to the fight scene, but I was disappointed once again.
I remembered that the saga revolves around Bella, and Bella is to be hiding in a tent up in the mountains away from the battle. I guess you should know what this means. At that point, I start to feel that S.Meyer really can't write.
She always give herself an excuse not to write the action:
1. In Twilight, when Edward was fighting James, Bella fainted. Disappointment.
2. In New Moon, she doesn't need to give herself any excuse, because there wasn't any action scene.
3. In Eclipse, Bella was away from the battle.
And number four, is the supposed showdown between the Volturi and the Cullens.
I thought this was what S.Meyer was stalling for, to keep the best for last. But I was wrong. She has once again assured me of her incompetency in writing a good novel.
I was really looking forward to the showdown. But the hostility was resolved at the end and the Volturi went back. At that moment, my mind was only filled with all the vulgarities I can think up. Hope there will be a battle in the movie.
I was extremely disappointed with S.Meyer.
She was compared with J.K. Rowling by Stephen King, and S.Meyer was described to be 'not very good'.
I came to know that she was writing The Host while writing Breaking Dawn at the same time. Seriously, how can a person write a good novel when he/she can't even focus on only one.
Is The Host a good novel? I don't know and I don't think so. The Host could be another saga with sequels The Soul and The Seeker.Labels: articles
